Yes, you read that headline right. The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank and Schindler’s List by Thomas Keneally are among the books banned in Lebanon. All of Jane Fonda’s films are also banned, because she visited Israel in 1982.

What a strange world it is.

One Response to “Anne Frank banned in Lebanon”

  1. Joanne says:

That’s odd about Jane Fonda, because I remember reading about that visit (I’m really dating myself here!). She went only because she was accompanying her then husband, California Senator Tom Hayden, who made pro-Israeli statements during his trip that were roundly ridiculed by Alexander Cockburn. I distinctly remember reading that she was visibly uncomfortable when she went with her husband to southern Lebanon, i.e., because she really did not support her husband’s being there.

It’s not hard to research Jane Fonda’s politics, now or in the past. If the Lebanese are willing to go back that far to include Fonda in the list, they should have taken the trouble to do a little research. Fonda was no pro-Zionist then, and probably isn’t now.
