I was interested to read this news story about Shifra Shomron’s novel Grains Of Sand: The Fall of Neve Dekalim, which follows the fortunes of an Israeli family living in Gush Katif in the run-up to the 2005 disengagement. I recommend you read Shomron’s book – it’s a beautifully written, riveting work. Amazingly, Shomron was 19 when she wrote it. She’s a great talent and I look forward to reading her future work.

I started to fall in love with this book after a few pages. My friends now love me for showing it to them. Thank you for posting this.
I personally know the Shomron family – and many others who were cruelly “transferred” from their homes and livelihoods nearly 4 years ago.
Shifra has a way of portraying the depressing experience in a humorous light.
I guess her outlook is the healthiest – anyone that knows history is witness tot he fact that the Jewish people has always suffered (unfairly, inhumanely) but has – Thank God – survived.
An important book to be read and passed on…
