Roger Waters of Pink Floyd was in the Middle East yesterday, and gave a text-book useful idiot performance. Described as “weary looking”, the old rocker made a spectacular fool of himself in front of a young audience at a Q&A session in Jerusalem.
Waters said that visiting Jenin earlier in the day “felt foreign in a good way,” a breathtaking insight on par with Welsh footballer Ian Rush’s remark that his time in Italy “was like living in a foreign country” or Judith Chalmers’ ubiquitous description of any metropolis she visits as “a city of contrasts”.
When discussion turned to the security fence – on which Waters spraypainted the words ‘No More Control’ during a previous visit – he said it was an “obscenity”. Not half as obscene as the suicide bombings it has spectacularly reduced, mate. Ever seen a school-bus and its inhabitants blown to pieces? That’s obscene.
The checkpoints have also helped prevent further atrocities, but according to Waters “all this checkpoint bullshit is a method of your government to control, not only the Palestinians but you as well”. Yeah, right: pass the wacky-baccy man!
Like most critics of Israel, Waters folded embarrassingly when confronted with basic facts about successive Palestinian leaderships’ rejection of generous offers from Israel. “I’m not aware of this,” he said. Quite.
(Thanks to Ashley Perry of MESI.)

once again, nice one, Chas. These idiots never get less ridiculous.
Thanks. Another one for Britain’s Got Bigots, methinks. Roger…..we’ve made our decision….it’s been a tough one because the standard is so high and somebody has to go home, butthat’s the nature of the competition. However, Roger….you’ll be pleased to know….you’re through to the next round.
Roger once wrote:
We don’t need no education
we don’t need no thought control
No sarcasm in the classroom
Teachers leave them kids alone
Maybe he should be talking with Hamas leaders about what he wrote.. they sound so true about Hamas leaders or teachers….
what an idiot. he must have been in a coma or something during the intifada.
As if it’s not bad enough having to listen to the Hamastines’ latest soundtrack (ie, endless remixes of ‘Bang Bang’, released on Katushya Records), the Israelis now have to put up with this fatuous has-been posturing all over their backyard. Why can’t Waters do the usual faded-rocker thing of schtupping floozies/cheese-making/tawdry decline instead of spouting anti-Israel flatus? I don’t even like his bass-holding, either.
People like him just dont unpack history correctly. I mean when they read, eg that Jews were (forced) tax collectors, for over 1ooo years in the Holy Roman Empire of Austro-Czech, for example it means that Jews are evil, not as it was that the Church slyly made them tax collecters, blamed the taxes on them, and did not even allow them to petition for children to have schools. While planting ideas in the innocent poor Christian mind about how rich the Jews are, and words like Gentile over and over. And its hard now for the Jews to refer to this part of their history as persecution. So Kafka wrote novels about being a cockroach an bureaucracy instead.
He’s true and i like his opinions.
