This is Pastor John Hagee’s congregational choir. Hagee is the founder and National Chairman of the Christian-Zionist organization Christians United for Israel. (Update: Please see comments below for more information on Hagee.)

Enjoy!

Oy! with people like you and him Chazzy boy, who needs enemies?

  4. Chas Newkey-Burden says:

Thanks for pointing that out. I had no idea.

I am grateful to be corrected.

Re your final line: what (other than posting this video without realising what Hagee is like for which I apologise) have I done wrong to merit that?

  5. Chas Newkey-Burden says:

PS – I will remove this video in due course, but because you didn’t give a real email address (though I think I know who you are) I can’t mail you the above question direct.

  6. Jonathan S says:

I had no idea about that either. Considering Chas’ regular support for Israel and the Jewish people, I cannot understand how his lack of background knowledge on this man’s views makes him an enemy of Israel and / or the Jewish people.

  7. Israelinurse says:

I hope you’re not taking that too seriously Chas. We need more friends like you and one small mistake (let’s be honest -we all make them) does nothing to cancel out all the heaps of good you have done.

  8. Samuel says:

    Ignore that ‘enemies’ comment Chas.

  9. Dan says:

I clicked the link with dread, as I knew of Hagee of being this massive nutter (check out Matt Taibbis book ‘The Great Derangement’ where he went undercover at Hagees church)

But that tune was actually pretty badass…

  10. Tabatha says:

You’ll find that *some* Christian zionists, especially in America, have dual agendas re Israel.

They are passionate advocates for the Jewish state, but at the same time, this is partly motivated by Christian beliefs about how to hasten the ‘return’ of Jesus. I.E. when all or most Jews are living in Israel, it’s thought this will speed up the ‘tribulation’ etc.

It becomes problematic because of course, Christian support of Israel is very welcome – and indeed, there are MANY MANY Christians who genuinely love Israel and who support her for all the right reasons.

It’s when you have figures like Hagee that you have to be a bit careful – other commentators are correct when pointing to remarks he’s made in the past that are cause for concern.

    Mindboggled:

Those controversial statements are the usual End Times Meggido armageddon stuff.

Hagee is no antisemite and has spoken to AIPAC a number of times to great applause. He was pastor to John McCain and has been linked to Sarah Palin as well. Though McCain is a Catholic by birth.

He is a great friend of Israel though obviously I do not share his religious views.

But to get back to the controversy, he has never advocated violence or any catalyst to “bring about end times”.

Chas you have no need to apologise!
