Last night there was a fundraiser for the terror-supporting Stop The War Coalition at the Adelphi Hotel in Liverpool. It was billed as ‘An Evening With George Galloway, Tony Benn and others’. Ewww.

An Oy Va Goy reader joined an admirable protest outside…

We were small but effective, flying four huge Israeli flags in George Galloway’s face outside the Adelphi. Tony Benn was ill and didn’t turn up (see – all that praying does help!)

Instead of leafleting, we held large non-confrontational posters, which prompted people to come and talk to us. This is precisely what we wanted. We all individually got into some heated debates, but people in the main did listen to us. There was only one particularly nasty incident when a woman came right up to us, pointing her finger and accusing us of being murderers. Others (notably an off-duty soldier who passed by) came and stood with us, shaking our hands and saying it was about time we fought back.

The audience was mostly ignorant, but some of them seemed enquiring. One particular man came over to me and started talking. I found out he was the person who put on the [Israel-bashing] play Seven Jewish Children at Hope. He admitted he had never even been to Israel, and actually in the end was pleased he had talked to me to hear the ‘other side’.

Tonight made me realise that sometimes small scale things on a regular basis can be just as effective as a larger demo.

Thanks for the report. And kol hakovod!

This is so heartening. It really is about time that we stood up to these terrorist supporting bigots like galloway.

  2. Chas Newkey-Burden says:

I am looking forward to the arrival of his little pixies, who always rush to defend him and abuse me whenever I post about him. They must have him on Google Alert or something!

  3. Shmuel says:

Nice post. Lol at Tony Benn prayers.

  4. Daniel says:

Respect and kudos to the protestors.

  5. Monkeytrousers says:

Good work, troops! You have everyone’s admiration. But surely, ‘An Evening With George Galloway and Tony Benn’ should be some sort of punishment for young offenders?

  6. Riva says:

I was there last night. As an Israeli it was heart-warming to see people off the street support us and come to stand with us in our protest. After all, this is who we do this for, not the hardcore psychos, but the ordinary people that know just what they see on the news, it’s them we must educate and show them the other side of Israel, the side so catefully hidden by the media and by Hamas supporters.

  7. Chas Newkey-Burden says:

I heard Tony Benn speak in Windsor a few years ago. He just reeled out endless crap about Israel, Iraq, Islamism etc etc and everyone sat their nodding. Because it’s Tony Benn. That man could say anything and there are many people who would agree.

  8. Riva says:

That’s the problem, people went there yesterday just to hear Tony Benn speak, he is a fantastic speaker, that’s why people will listen blindly.

  9. Jonathan S says:

I don’t think he’s a fantastic speaker at all. He’s a bile spewing, vile little man who thinks his ridiculous stuffy accent and pipe make him some sort of cuddly werther’s original style grandpa. In truth he’s a nasty, hateful figure who has a peculiar and vicious counter-factual agenda that he pushes relentlessly.

  10. Chas Newkey-Burden says:

What interested me on the night in Windsor about Benn was that this was Windsor: very Tory area, very Tory audience. The talk was in a church, FFS. Yet the audience lapped it all up. If any of them thought about Benn’s politics, they’d hate him and want him burned at the stake. If any other lefty had been booked to talk in Windsor, they wouldn’t sell a single ticket. Yet the evening was sold out.
I kind of agree with Jonathan S, and would add that Benn has got even worse in recent years: http://www.oyvagoy.com/2009/01/26/tony-benns-israel-jesus-slur/

  11. Jonathan S says:

The frustrating thing about him is that the older he gets, the more that persona ‘grows’. An old vicious posh twat is apparently more endearing than a young one. It adds to the ‘cuddly grandpa’ thing.

On the plus side, the older he gets, the less time there is left in which we have to put up with him.

  12. Chas Newkey-Burden says:

His praise for Tariq Aziz and Bobby Sands were terrible. His “Jesus” remark during Operation Cast Lead was even worse.

  13. Riva says:

I’m not saying he’s a good person, I completely agree with you both about the things he says but many people went there last night to listen to him and many were dissapointed because he didn’t attend.

  14. Chas Newkey-Burden says:

They were also there to fund an Israel-bashing, terror-supporting group. So they are probably generally disappointed in life!

  15. Jonathan Hoffman says:

Kol hakavod to the protesters. Thanks for posting this Chas.

  16. Israelinurse says:

Well done to all the people who took this worthy project upon themselves. If there are things like this going on in the North, I for one would be very grateful to know about them in advance and possibly join the ranks.

  17. Chas Newkey-Burden says:

Anyone ever arranging such a demo/event anywhere, please do feel free to contact me privately to help me spread the word. Discretion is guaranteed.

  18. Jonathan Hoffman says:

Israeli Nurse – can you let Chas have your email to send to me so we can keep you informed?

  19. Chas Newkey-Burden says:

I’ll ask her direct, Jonathan. Good idea.

  20. faceless says:

Do you think many of the people who showed you support would have done so if they knew you were the kind of nasty little cunts who would pray for a highly respected old man to be sick, simply because he stands against your cultish rhetoric?

  21. Scouse Wag says:

Second prize is a week in Liverpool with George Galloway and Tony Benn …..

  22. Chas Newkey-Burden says:

Faceless, I suggest you re-read. Nobody has said they’ve prayed for Benn to be sick.

  23. anna says:

    Kol hakavod! Well done.

    George Orwell once said:
“Pacifism is objectively pro-fascist. This is elementary common sense. If you hamper the war effort of one side, you automatically help out that of the other.”

  24. Monkeytrousers says:

Faceless (or should that be ‘Brainless’), the objection to Viscount Stansgate (yes, Benn was born into arsitocracy) is because he supports terrorists, especially the IRA and Saddam Hussein. With friends like that, how could he possibly be taken seriously? And by the way, the so-called ‘cultish rhetoric’ you find on this site is simply known as…the facts.

  25. cba says:

Chas, the “Jesus comment” video has been removed. What did Benn say?
