Having watched Jane Corbin’s wilfully selective and misleading Panorama report A Walk In The Park, I was reminded of the fact that a former BBC Middle East correspondent once remarked at a dinner party: “Surely the Jews must have done something to provoke the Germans?”

Meanwhile, the remarkable response of Israel to the Haiti disaster should be acknowledged. Israel was one of the first countries on the scene last week and has sent many more troops than countless larger nations including Britain and France. A baby boy was delivered in an Israeli field hospital and the mother of the child has decided to name him Israel.
Tom Gross has compiled a useful round-up of Israel’s leading role in Haiti in his latest dispatch Israel’s Disproportionate Response. Don’t expect to hear much about all this on the BBC any time soon but please circulate the facts that Gross has compiled.
Most importantly, my thoughts and prayers go out to all effected by the Haiti earthquake.
Chas – I hope you might allow this comment on the little row here through. No – somebody obviously does not cease to be a holocaust survivor because they criticise Israel and to say so is shameful.
But it is equally shameful to USE the status of holocaust survivor to try to “beef up” or make more credible critcism of Israel.

I watched the first of three sections on “youtube” thinking this actually isn’t that bad (for the BBC) but by part 2 the ominous music began and she annouced she’d “discovered” (prob printed from the internet) plans to build….da da da…”parks and tourist parks” around the mount of olives! Those evil Israelis! Any other country would be praised for preserving the environment around such a historic location but to the BBC its an evil Zionist plot. She then states that many of the residents in an Arab area built illegally without permits so Israel is demolishing 88 of their squats to build another park. This is truly BBC at its worst.
There are already attempts to sow the belief that Israel is harvesting organs from the victims (http://www.presstv.ir/detail.aspx?id=116613§ionid=351020706).
(To think this is the TV channel on which Cherie’s sister Lauren Booth appears weekly, blonde hair coyly peeping out from beneath a scarf. Such strange bedfellows, these western feminists and those Islamicist nutters.)
