In 1982 Ehud Barak was a major general in the Israel Defence Force (IDF). He visited an infantry battalion during the early weeks of the first Lebanon war and told them to remember the women and babies that were waiting for them back at home. Little could he have known that in 2000, as he became Prime Minister and the babies of 1982 were being drafted to the IDF, that Israel would still be in Lebanon.
Every week it seems another of my Israeli friends proudly announces on Facebook the birth of a child. It makes me wonder what will be going on when those children reach 18 and are drafted into the IDF. I’m interested to hear your predictions. What will the situation be for Israel and its neighbours in 2028?

The year is 2028, with Oprah as president of the united states (and Jon Stewart as vp) the peace process has finally been completed. The Jews agree to the 1967 borders for Israel, the Palestinians stop all violence against Israel, so all violence ceases (funny how that works). Jerusalem, because no one nation can lay legitimate claim to it, is now an independent nation, governed by anything but the united nations (please). Finally, BOTH israel and palestine become models for democracy in the middle east, while the Americans are busy invading (and ‘starting’ democracy’ in) Syria, lebanon, jordan, egypt, iran and saudi arabia.
@Eli: I think you are having a laugh…
Declaration of interest: I am a bible believing Christian. As such, I have heart filled with love and support for Am Israel and Eretz Israel and as such, I take my forecasts from the word of Ha Shem.
At some point, which is plausibly before 2028, all of Eretz Israel will be Jewish again, the non-existent “Palestine” will have faded away and Ha Shem’s blessings will be on Assyria (Iraq), Ethiopia and Egypt specifically.
Genuine shalom won’t be there until Messiah arrives to put things right. It won’t come from the nations and certainly not the UN!
Funny how Israel offered the whole of the west bank back to Jordan (despite Jordan having no legitimate claim over it either, having occupied it in 1948/1949) immediately after the six day war in return for peace, and got the famous “3 No’s” response.
Funny how Israel withdrew from Gaza in 2005 and the rockets continued.
Have you noticed that both the “emblems” of Fatah and Hamas include a “map”, in green, which includes the whole of Israel?
Your response is a typical naive response based on a lack of knowledge of the background and history to the conflict.
Israel has made peace with two of its neighbours. I wish the number was higher. But the fault for it being only two is not Israel’s.
2028: The anti-Israel lobby around the world will still pretend they give a damn about the Palestinians whilst secretly wishing more doom and gloom for them so they can bash the Jewish state.
Surely given the deep desire of Israel for peace,by 2028 the anti-Israel lobby will be bitterly disappointed?
Blah: I’ve waited all day for you to comment on this post!

Remind me not to employ you as my broker on the petroleum futures market.
Great one Israelinurse, thanks/
Eli, that’s about one of the most sensible comments I’ve ever read on here, and thankfully, the most likely outcome of this whole mess. Israel ultimately will have no choice but to withdraw to the 1967 boarder if it ever wants to live without being vilified & attacked. Jerusalem, due to its contested nature & historical importance, should be a universal city, administered by the UN. Pipe dream, but so are the aims of the Zionists & Palestinians, but there is no choice if the violence, on both sides, is ever to cease. The Zionists & Palestinians will otherwise argue & fight forever, as despite the rhetoric, neither side can ever achieve their ultimate aims.
Kevin is an ignoramous who cannot even bring himself to say Israel but just parroting the “Zionist” mantra.
Frankly i am disgusted and fed up by people like you.
Thank you IN i am with you.smile
BTW Kevin it is people like you who,s only aim is to see the violence to go on while sitting smirking in a safe corner
IN
We have two things in common I am a nurse as well and love Israel as well.smile
Seem to have upset evaM, like I care! I’ll smirk all I like evaM, at least I can comment on here without resorting to personal insults, guess that’s your defence when you know you can’t offer any sensible comment.
You mention babies. Did you know that that birth rate for Jewish births in Israel is now 116,000 (for 2008-2009) and increasing every year. Israeli Jews love life and Israel is one of the few Western countries where the birth rate is rising. Israel is flourishing and not going anywhere, much to the Judeophobes disgust.
