My Rivlin - I do not claim that Islam is purely about the more militant strain that we see evidence of throughout the world today. Islam is not a monolithic faith and is open to different interpretations. But the point so obviously lost on naive, narrow minded liberals such as yourself is that a radical strain of Islamic ideology does exist which mandates acts of violence and terror. Churchill recognised that to his credit. And unlike yourself, I have looked at the historical record to see the good and bad sides of Islamic history - the jihad co-existing with more enlightened attitudes. Shocking to look at facts and draw conclusions? I don't think so.

Hi Jeremy,

In reference to your answer given to the question "Did he not have rather negative feelings towards Islam?", I would like to make a few points. Firstly, it is very clear by the language you use that you yourself are in fact not only biased against Islam, but seemingly not very educated about the religion at all. You use Churchill's words to portray Islam as a violent and 'toxic' religion, and only encourage this negative stereotype. This is not what a teacher, as you say you are, should do. As a Jewish man who's spent many of his times with Muslims, I can easily say that they are without a doubt some of the most tolerant and peaceful people on this earth, especially those who practice their faith correctly. You say you're a historian? That's shocking. Every legitimate historian knows that Islam freed inslaved women at the time of the Prophet Muhammad, and prohibited the killing of innocent women and children. The Constitution of Medina, which Muhammad himself composed, embraced the Jewish community as one with the Islamic community, and labeled the enemies of Judaism as the enemies of Islam, and that all Muslims should defend the Jews, and vice versa. This is the real Islam, not the phony 'radicalist' stereotype you and the Western media are imposing onto the public. The very fact that you judge the entire religion based on a minute percentage of extremists (that are present in every religion on this planet) shows your lack of understanding and reason. Should I then allow such organizations such as the Jewish Defense League and other Jewish terrorist groups to represent Judaism? Of course not. And you should do the same for Islam.
Reards,

What a lovely anecdote! I would love to hear more. You will enjoy many of the essays in the book, some of which include amusing, unusual and interesting anecdotes of this kind as well as fond remembrances of Churchill from others.
Regards

Wonderful! My mother had the good fortune to "meet" (so to speak) Mr. Churchill as she was on the Queen Mary (which had been turned into a troop ship) on her way to serve with the American Red Cross in England during WWII. He was on the same ship and took the time to speak to everyone there, deck by deck - nice story: over the loudspeakers came the announcement that all personnel were to gather at the elevator doors on whatever deck they were at that moment and just wait. When the elevator doors opened, there was Mr. Churchill ready to bring greetings and thanks for the Americans onboard who were on their way to England to fight with him!
