After a marathon trip including 36 hours of frustrating waits in airports, I can confirm that Israelinurse finally got home yesterday. Of all the wonderful things that have come to me from running this blog I have to say that getting to know Israelinurse has probably been the greatest. I look forward to seeing her again soon. It’s not so much next year in Jerusalem but ASAP in the Golan.

Welcome back Israelinurse! I hope your customs shenanigans work out OK for you. My husband made it back early on Wednesday morning (3 a.m. to be precise) but unfortunately he missed Yom Haatzmaut, which he was most peeved about. The hardest part of his journey was getting out of England. He got himself a ticket on Eurostar to Paris on Monday night, and originally was supposed to fly home from Rome on Wednesday, but simply could not get any train tickets from Paris to Rome. (This sounds like one of those “around the world in 80 days” sagas). Then I got an email from El Al that they were flying from Marseilles, so his travel agent arranged a flight home from there, and he even managed to get a train ticket from Paris to Marseilles. Friends of his had to hire a driver to get them from Paris to Marseilles. What a performance!
The French train system was supposed to be on strike but apparently they can’t even manage to do that properly because the trains were on time!
Nice one

Thanks to all for your good wishes and to Chas for being such a sweetie. I must say that El Al did their level best to get as many Israelis home as they could as soon as possible. There was a real ‘all in this together’ spirit going on – a sort of modern day exodus from Egypt, except that I doubt that the Israelites then had to contend with crashing computers at both Luton and Heathrow airports on the same day!
Great to be home with family and friends of course, as well as proper hummus, schug and shakshuka!
