Last night I went to see a film about Israeli sumo wrestlers. Like you do. A Matter Of Size is a wonderful film about four fat Israelis who decide to become sumos. It manages to be touching, moving and hilarious all at once. It is definitely one of the best films I’ve ever seen, I recommend it. It was a great night all round actually. A group of us had dinner at White House Express first and we were therefore delighted that the film includes some shawarma-based humour. Great food, great film and above all great company – I had a blast.

Was an excellent evening, and a great film!
where can i see it?
We saw it at The Tricycle in Kilburn. I think it was a one-night only showing. I’ll let you know if I hear of it anywhere else, Gary. And I’ll be trying to buy the DVD in due course too, so could always lend you that in the future.
Thanks for the recommendation Chas. I’ve just started working my way through all the Israeli films I can find.
So far, two kosher:
Ushpizin (I love this film)
Waltz with Bashir(animation about first Leb war)
and two crap:
Lemon Tree
Paradise Now
Even these are worth watching just to see a glimpse of Israel but they are so one-sided as to be comical (suicide bombers equated with Jesus at last supper).
I love Ushpizin and found things to admire in Waltz With Bashir. Not seen the other two, but might do on a rainy day!
Glad to hear it! Here’s a handy vid if you’re in the mood but don’t have time…

It looks good, Chas. Thanks for sharing:-)
Where do you find out about these films/DVD’s? I’m out in the sticks so haven’t a clue.
I’m in the sticks (more or less) myself too Penny!
A friend told me about A Matter Of Size.
PS – have fun on Tuesday!
Chas just came back from my trip from Iraland/UK, while in London upon your reccomendation I went to eat at the White House in Hendon Central, not only the Shawarma was wonderful but also humus/ tehina and the best was to be able to have a long chat in Hebrew with Simon the owner, who kept me sane on the Flotilla story , as for days i was fed by BBC /CNN biased reporting and printed press titles,
Long Live our boys in IDF
BTW I told in the White House how I come to know about their famouse Shawarma, through your blog Chas!
That film looks very funny!
he he he he finally some laughs after the gloom, will certainly buy it when comes out in DVD in Israel
