Jewish News conducted an exclusive Q&A with former Prime Minister Tony Blair for this week’s issue. Readers had been invited to submit questions for the Q&A.

Mine was: During Israel’s defensive war against Hezbollah in 2006 you came under pressure to condemn Israel but you remained essentially supportive. How did you find the strength to take so many courageous, moral foreign policy decisions during your reign as Prime Minister?

You can read Mr Blair’s answer to my question and the others on page four of this week’s Jewish News.

Regular readers may recall my fondness for Blair. The above has done nothing to dampen it.

excellent question, Chas, and a very good answer, too. I like Tony. He always struck me as a man of integrity.

I can’t help wondering,if Israel’s war against Hizbullah (Lebanon) was so defensive, why it was deemed appropriate to bomb the fuck out of the people of Beirut, bearing in mind Hizbullah aren’t even in Beirut. In fact,Israel managed to enrage even the sworn enemies of Hizbullah so much that they ended up supporting Hizbullah instead!!!! Way to go military planners!

    • elixelx says:

Ah! The poor poor fuckers in Beirut. They had no fuck left in them , blah and hence could NOT have had the fuck bombed out of them! When will you learn, nincompoop, that those poor bombed out fuckers are just the pawns in the game, and we all know, pussy, that pawns are the first to go!

  3. SteveR says:

Tony’s a good guy but his wife NO. She did say she understood what motivates a suicide bomber and not two weeks later she was shedding tears in a Spanish cathederal for the victims of the outrages there. Her sister, and his sister in law… well we all know her thoughts on us.

  4. Israelinurse says:

Blah x 3 – your ignorance is showing yet again. The one neighbourhood in Beirut to be bombed in 2006 was the Dahia neighbourhood which is a Hizbollah stronghold. Yes, the chaps with the rockets may be further south, but the orders to fire those rockets come from Dahia.
Maybe you would like to comment on the fact that Hizbollah has been allowed to re-arm since then despite UN resolution 1701 and under the nose of UNIFIL, thereby making the next conflict inevitable.

  5. RMew Editors says:

Blair: “There are deep theological differences between Judaism and Islam. However, the two religions also have many commonalities: they share the values of compassion, justice, and human dignity”.

The devil is in the details. The two faiths may share these concepts but each faith applies the concepts very differently. For example, in Islam, a woman’s testimony is worth half that of a man’s and non-Muslims are not afforded equal rights. Hardly the same notion of justice.

    • AG says:

I think we should look to ourselves before making comments like that which seem to imply that Islam mistreats women..

      • Shmuel says:

How could anyone say that Islam does not mistreat women?

        • Lynne T says:

C’mon folks. You can’t tell me that Jewish women are accorded equal status to men under Judaism, particularly in it’s orthodox form. It may not be so extreme as to contenance female genital mutilation or a requirement that a rape victim’s allegation must be supported by 4 male witnesses, but what’s the rationale for giving prayers of thanks for being born men and not women, or for requiring strict sexual segregation in assemblies, or the power men wield to withhold ghets from their former wives, denying them the right to remarry?

          • RMew Editors says:

You’re comparing female genital mutilation and unequal rights under the law with a personal prayer of thanks for being born a man? You’ve got an interesting sense of symmetry. And Judaism has been through a reformation unwinding most of the draconian practices. Islam hasn’t.

  6. blahblahblah says:

And your coldbloodedness is showing yet again,Israelinurse. What are Hizbullah “re-arming” themselves with? Coriander seeds? Tahini?(both previously banned from Gaza, being obviously lethal weapons)
Seriously though, your claims can be taken with a pinch of salt.Make that a bucket.

    • Shmuel says:

You totally owned him there Israelinurse. He seems to think Hizbullah is in Gaza. And anyway he has no answer to your knowledgeable points.

    • Adam says:

blah etc. how your name suits your posts. Hizbollah has rearmed with up to 40,000 rockets, many of which now have the range to reach the entire Jewish state. Your flippant comments simply reflect a lack of knowledge and a poverty of intellect.

  7. Michael Cohen says:

Yes Blahblahblah has the about as much knowledge of the I-P issue as Cartman

  8. sharna says:

Shame Tony Blair couldn’t explain facts to his ignorant sister-in-law lauren booth

  9. zkharya says:

‘I can’t help wondering,if Israel’s war against Hizbullah (Lebanon) was so defensive, why it was deemed appropriate to bomb the fuck out of the people of Beirut’

You mean why Israel had to attack Hizbullah’s communications base in Beirut, and the bridges and airport by which Hizbullah armed itself?

    Isn’t that self-evident?
