The IDF has released a gripping video presentation that gives a detailed overview of the flotilla incident. It is a little late in coming, but all the same this is a powerful and important tool to get the truth out there. You can see part one here, and part two here.
For me, I am still flabbergasted by the bigoted reaction of much of the world to what happened that day. Some people simply refuse to be fair to Israel, even when the evidence is in front of their very eyes.
Enough negativity. My final word, for now at least, on the incident is to say that if this is a humanitarian:

Then this is an animal rights activist:

Thanks for these links Chas.
Meanwhile over at the israellycool blog, Aussie Dave reveals more Gaza “suffering” – check out the Grand Palace Hotel Gaza

Spot on with those photos.
I second that! Excellent use of analogy/imagery, Chas.
(But look at that poor seal looking up trustingly at his killer! I’ve got to run off and have a weep!)
By the way, as for it being ‘late in coming’, this is a side effect of telling the truth. Invariably, the IDF and the Israeli government prefer to get the facts straight (often by means of an investigation, as in this case), before making definite declarations regarding exactly what happened and in what order. If it takes a little longer to do so than to issue lies about massacres and peace activists, that’s just a prive they have to pay, as I am sure you will agree.
Your photo comment is ace!
Interesting, but the preliminary parts of this should’ve been prepared in advance & something released immediately: something more rough-and-ready, without the fancy computer graphics, but on YouTube five or six weeks ago, would have been far better. And why is it narrated in Hebrew, in such a melodramatic style and with that awful music soundtrack? It should be in English and with an Orson Wells style narrator. Doh!
Thank goodness the IDF has Chas to get the timely, punchy & effective PR out!
And now, Rashid Khalidi, Obama’s good friend and advisor on hating Israel, is getting into the same act. See here: http://www.campus-watch.org/blog/2010/07/rashid-khalidi-appeals-for-funds-for-ship-to-run
Well said Chas: as ever, your bullshit detector is in fine fettle today.
Have to say that I agree with Yitzchak re. the music.
If anyone in the IDF films dept. is reading, I happen to know a very good sound designer…
I agree with the comments about the music and the Hebrew narration. But it’s still a very good thing to have out there, and I congratulate them on making it.
Perhaps it is true that such a detailed presentation would take time to arrange, but they could have had a basic presentation like this out within hours of the incident. They didn’t, and they paid the price in terms of global reaction.
Likewise, it was only after the incident that they started circulating information about the IHH and its terrorist connections. They should have been spreading that information weeks before. Israelinurse was blogging about those links nine days before the incident. The links were known beforehand but the government waited until it was too late to start speaking about them.
And now when they release a video they do it in Hebrew, when it is hardly Israelis who need to be convinced of the truth of the operation. It is the rest of the world who need this information. Very few people who do not understand Hebrew will bother watching a video in Hebrew (albiet with subtitles). So I wonder if ‘congratulate’ is too admiring a word in the circumstances? How would a PR firm score if they approached it this way?
Very good points – I don’t know anyone who would sit through a video in Hebrew. Most importantly the video is preaching to the converted.
We need to amp up the marketing and promotion of this.
What other ideas can we all come up with it to effectively promote Pro Israel campaigns and annihilate Anti Israel campaigns?
yes. you’re right. I’ve reconsidered.
Your “if this is a humanitarian…” would make a good pro-Israel e-mail campaign (though I find forwarded e-mails really annoying).
OK, but if the seal has a gun and opposable thumbs and abseils from a helicopter into the hunters camp then what?
Seal attacking a seal hunter? Isn’t that self-defence?
Chas, have you seen this?

As for the piece being in Hebrew, I really wonder what planet they are on – who the hell cares about Hebrew outside of Israel – it’s not as though there are no English speakers there!
