You may recall that in May I gave a talk for Israel Connect about effective blogging and online campaigning. I am giving a similar talk for the Union Of Jewish Students on Sunday at their annual Campaigns Summit.

Meanwhile, having recently reached number two in the WH Smiths chart with my Simon Cowell biography, I am pleased to be back in the same chart with my Justin Bieber book. Good times.

Update: The UJS talk went well. They’re a lovely and impressive bunch of people. I loved meeting the legendary Alex Dwek, who kindly gave me a bottle of Israeli wine. Thanks to everyone for being so nice, particularly the man who paid me an extraordinarily generous compliment during the Q&A session. I wasn’t quite sure how to respond, but it was much appreciated.

Fair play on the Smiths chart. Hope UJS goes well.

Good job Chas. Well done. Could Duvidl please have a brief explanation of who Justin Bieber is?

La Cumparsita. Sorry for this late reply, but Duvidl has always been a fan of the late great Mickey Katz since he immortalised Duvid in song in the 1950s.

Duvidl highly recommends Mickey’s “Mish Mosh” greatest hits CD, which is available from Jewish Music Distribution. Duvidl’s favourite is “Schleppin’ My Baby Back Home” to the tune of “Walking My Baby Back Home.”

And, since Mickey is the zeida of Jennifer Grey from “Dirty Dancing” and tatte of Joel Grey from “Cabaret,” that’s some mishpocha, as the Youtube video states.

I didn’t know that the great Mickey was Jennifer Grey’s zeida ( she’s a bit too modern for me) but did know about son Joel. A friend of mine thinks that MK played with Xavier Cugat but I could only find evidence that he was with Spike Jones’ band for a short while. My dear Dad now in his 90s, introduced us to MK in the 1950s & we had 2 LPs one of which was Mish Mosh with our star performer in what looked like a butchers shop on the cover. I still have it somewhere I think. My fave track is “Don’t let the schmaltz get in your eyes – don’t let the lox get in your sox” . I love the way he injects a bit of klezmer into these tunes. Gmar Chatima Tovah.
