Chas, hope the talk goes well.
“Fraid I can’t make it seeing as I’m Down Under.

But I came across this very interesting tidbit and immediately thought of you!!:

Jan 20, 2003: In an article in The Observer, columnist Jay Rayner reported that the quintessential British dish, Fish and Chips, was a Jewish creation.

In 1860, Joseph Malin opened the first business in London’s East End selling fried fish alongside chipped potatoes. The National Federation of Fish Fryers presented a commemorative plaque to Malin’s of Bow in 1968 which attests to the accuracy of this story.

Nothing to do with the talk (love to come!) But, my bette noir, Press TV is finally off the air! Hurrah! Mmmmmm, what am I going to watch now to get my heart beat going at an incredible rate – and of course the odd laugh! Better listen to George Galloway on the radio instead!
    Good look Chas x

  7. Avril says:

Ooops, I know I’m from Liverpool, but I mean luck, though I pronounce it look! Ha

Wanted to send you an email, but clicking on Contacts brings up an error message. So apology for off-topic message. I’ve just found out that Henley College (which is not too far from you) is going to be hosting Norman Finkelstein on February 9th (Thursday) at 10:30 in the morning. I assume at that time the main audience will be students, but I think it is open to the public. Any ideas or suggestions? Would you be able to make it?

  9. Makabit says:

Sorry to have missed it, but it’s kind of a schlep from California.

Glad to see you blogging again! I haven’t been here in a while.

  10. Elaine says:

This is the first time I have ever written on a blog, so hope it works. I have just returned from hearing you speak at Kenton United and was extremely moved. I also felt very humble to know that someone non-Jewish has been working so hard in support of Israel. Thank you.

  11. Karen says:

I also attending your talk this evening. I found myself a seat at the back right next the radiator, huddled right next to it expecting to fall into a slumbering stupor as I tend to do these days. Not this time! I was wide awake and interested. I didn’t want it to end. I, too, was extremely moved and humbled by your talk. The fact that you engage and ask questions rather than rant and argue a point of view was very powerful and I must try to take that onboard. Mazeltov to Elaine on her first blog. It prompted me to write this.

  12. sharna says:

Chas, It was a privilage to have you in Kenton tonight and it was as moving and excellant as ever. Thank you.

Thank you to Elaine, Karen and Sharna – and to everyone else who came along last night. I really enjoyed it and loved meeting so many lovely people.

Chas, I really enjoyed your talk. I agree with your comment that you’re not THE best speaker in the world, but you are pretty good and a damn sight better than most. You came across with genuine warmth and kind good humor. Thank you for your support.

    • Tony Jacobs says:

Chas, I was wondering if you’re going to the Israel lobby day on 8th February?
