It’s a big weekend for three of the people I’ve written biographies of, with questions hanging over each.

Simon Cowell has flu! Will he or won’t he be well enough appear on the first live show of this year’s X Factor?
(He will.)

Amy Winehouse might be back in rehab! Will she fulfil her booking to appear as a backing singer on Strictly Come Dancing on Saturday?
(Bookies give 6/4 that she won’t. But she will.)

Alexandra Burke is to sing Bad Boys on the Sunday night X Factor results show! How will she do?
(She’ll blow the blimming roof off.)

PS – I did my slot on BBC Radio London this morning. If you’re interested it is on Listen Again here. I am 1.32 in.

PPS – You can also check me out on Monday’s BBC Berkshire breakfast show talking about the Danni/Danyl controversy here, around 2.09 in.

Great to hear that Amy Winehouse is due to appear on Strictly Come Dancing this weekend.

Assuming she shows up this will be another great way for her to gently ease herself back onto the live circuit here, following her surprise guest spot with The Specials at the V Festival. Soon enough, she’ll hopefully have the confidence and inclination to return properly. I’ve certainly been hearing some positive sounds coming from her camp of late.

Oh, Amy give us one more chance, to show that we love you.

The prize in this week’s competition is a signed copy of one of my recent biographies – and you get to decide which you win.

awbIncluding original interviews, my bestselling Amy Winehouse biography is now in updated paperback which brings the story right up to date, including her dramatic life-saving heroism in St Lucia. Look magazine called it: “A great read – four out of five.” The Jewish Chronicle said: “Until she puts pen to paper herself, this is as good as we’re going to get.” The book has been translated into seven languages.

cowellb Simon Cowell: The Unauthorised Biography also got a four-star rating from the News Of The World, which praised its “entertaining new insight”. It includes many original interviews with those who know and have worked with Cowell, including numerous finalists from Pop Idol, American Idol and The X Factor. It was published a few weeks ago and is already performing well in the WH Smiths chart. You can read the prologue to the book here.

To enter the competition leave a ‘pick me’ comment below, saying which of the two books you want to win. I will choose the winner on Friday. (The competition is open to all, I will post to anywhere in the world.)

Amy Winehouse’s classic appearance on Buzzcocks condensed into 3:39. Comedy gold.

Nice to see Look magazine give my newly-published, updated Amy Winehouse biography – now officially an international bestseller – four out of five stars, describing it as “gripping”.

Now available in paperback all good shops, folks!

Quick reminder that I am on The Biography Channel tonight (Sunday) at 9pm, talking about Amy Winehouse. You can see a clip here. The show is repeated endlessly, starting tomorrow at 9am and 3pm.

amy

I will appear on the Amy Winehouse documentary on The Biography Channel this Sunday at 9pm. I filmed the interview while in Hollywood last October, as you do.

You can see a clip from the show – including yours truly – here.

I thought it was time for a more light-hearted post.

So you might like to take a look at my latest article on the Guardian website, about icky eating scenes in literature.

And you definitely might like to take a look at this hilarious post about Annie Lennox. Truly inspired stuff!

Finally, isn’t it nice to read some good news about Amy Winehouse for a change? It looks like she’s having a lovely time out there.

As I wrote in Not In My Name, it is amusing when ageing rock men criticise Amy Winehouse’s lifestyle, even though they caned it beyond belief in their prime. Francis Rossi of Status Quo has had a pop at her drug-use, which was rich coming from a man who boasts that he took so much cocaine that his septum disappeared down the plughole. The horrible Ian Brown, too, has criticised her love of a drink or two, saying that she must be “scared of life”. Hmm, and I suppose his famously prodigious smoking of pot is motivated by something other than a desire to escape reality.

Now, Alex James of Blur – who admits he has spent the best part of a million pounds on cocaine – says he will be surprised if Amy and Pete Doherty live beyond 2010. Is this a touch of wishful thinking from an over-the-hill man who misses being the bell of the ball? Or just straightforward hypocrisy?

Mind you, I see that the Blur reunion tickets aren’t selling as quickly as hoped. So I suppose James’s leeching off her limelight might be just a desperate publicity stunt. It will soon be time for another ‘We’re not doing it for the money which is why we’re charging £50 per ticket’ interview from the vile Damon Albarn.

PS – Speaking of Not In My Name, thanks to Craig Purshouse for naming it his book of 2008. I always said you were a wise one, Craig! Thanks also to Nick Stone for naming it among his faves of 2008. I’m glad you liked it guys.

So the rather lovely-looking Alex Haines says that Amy Winehouse has spent up to £3,500 a week on drugs. He also says she is a bulimic who stuffs her face with McDonalds and then throws up over the sink.

Meanwhile, more photos are forthcoming of Amy on her holiday in St Lucia. She’s looking great. Perhaps her lifestyle has more to recommend it than we thought?

Come on Amy, there must be a book in this: ‘Amy Winehouse’s Crack & Big Mac Diet’. You know where to find me if you need a ghostwriter.

I had completely forgotten I did this interview. Not surprising, really. Not only was it a year ago, but I’d also spent the weekend at Julie’s prior to this chat. I was still a little bit mashed as I did it. Method acting, one could say, given the subject matter! I love the OTT style of the show!

I particularly enjoy the anger that rises to the surface during the “bitch” bits!

The aforeblogged television interview about Amy Winehouse I gave in Hollywood in October will be shown on American TV tomorrow night. It will eventually be shown over here, too. ‘Citing.

I was glad to see a brand new paperback of my Amy biog stacked high by the counter in HMV today. I even saw someone consider buying it, but then decide not to. The cow! Apparently they’re shifting like proper little sods, though. So that’s good.

Meanwhile, I hope this guy enjoys prison because it’s just where he should be.

Happy Hanukkah Amy.

I received another foreign edition of one of my books today. It was the Brazilian edition of my Amy Winehouse biography, and very nice it looks too. But the most exciting aspect is that there is a television advert in Brazil for my book! See below.

My Amy and Paris Hilton biogs are selling well overseas. At the last count, the Amy book had been sold to Belgium, France, Brazil, Holland and Finland. The Paris book has so far gone to Sweden, Russia, France, Finland and Japan. Bravo!
